Albert Kahn, born in France, was a 19th and 20th century businessman who used his wealth to create an 'Archive of the Planet' in photography. He did this by hiring a number of photographers, equipping them with the Lumiere Brothers' autochrome colour photography cameras and dispatching them to all corners of the globe. The result became a unique archive of 72,000 images.

Ansel Easton Adams, born 1920 was an American photographer best known for his black & white photographs of the American West.
